What is Christmas In Action?

Christmas in Action is a 501 (3)c non-profit volunteer organization that repairs home for the low-income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners in Wichita County TX. Christmas in Action Wichita County Texas INC. was organized in 1983.             

All repairs are made at no expense to the homeowner. Donations are accepted when possible.

Currently due to COVID-19 contractor services are only being offered due to a limited volunteers.  Roofing, minor plumbing, electrical and ramps are the main contractor focus.

 

Family members can also volunteer to do projects for elderly, disabled and veteran family members which could include painting, door installation, grab bars or siding repair to name just a few.. 

 

 When are Christmas in Action events?

Christmas in Action performs repairs throughout the year as long as funds are available and when urgent needs arise.  Our BBQ Cook Off is held in early April and our Breakfast with Santa is held in December.


How is a home considered for repair?

An application must be on file with all the required documnets attached. (documents required: proof of income for all occupants in the home and proof of home ownership)


What are the eligibility requirements?

The main requirements for your application to be considered are the following:

  1. You must own and reside in your home. Christmas in Action does not make repairs on rental property. 
  2. The property must be in the name of the applicant to receive services.
  3. You must be considered low-income elderly (over 60), low-income disabled and a low-income veteran.
  4. The home must be in Wichita County, Texas.
  5. You must also remain in your home for at least 2 years after repairs are made or repairs must be paid back.
  6. You must provide proof of ownership and income for all occupants living in the household.


What is the application process?

When applications are received by Christmas in Action they are processed for proper qualifications. A visit to the home is conducted to evaluate the work requested and photos are taken of all sides of the home and some repairs. Flood maps and historicals are ordered for each home.  Repairs such as roofing, plumbing, electrical and ramps are completed by contractors or family volunteers complete lower level repairs.


How may I participate in Christmas In Action?

There are many ways to participate:

  • Serve on the Christmas in Action Board.
  •  Help with fundraising. 
  • Volunteer to help with our BBQ Cook Off or Breakfast with Santa. 
  • Donate your time and talents to do a simple project for a homeowner.  
  • Donate materials or supplies.  
  • Help with office work               
  • Make monetary donations to purchase supplies and skilled labor.


What is a House Captain?

House Captains are the volunteer project coordinators for a particular house or project. They are usually individuals who are skilled or have knowledge of home repair. House Captains are in charge of coordinating repairs and assigning work to the volunteers.


How may I volunteer to be a House Captain?

To volunteer, contact Christmas in Action and a representative will be happy to visit with you and answer any and all questions.


How can I donate funds, supplies or services to Christmas in Action?

Monetary donations may be submitted to the Christmas in Action, PO Box 8467, Wichita Falls, TX 76307, or drop off in lock box under the mailbox at 1113 Sheppard Access RD. Wichita Falls, TX or through our online service Network for Good.

In-kind donations such as construction materials, electrical and plumbing supplies, tools, and paint supplies are all needed to make the necessary repairs. Businesses or individuals may donate supplies by contacting Christmas in Action to arrange for drop off or to pick-up small items.

Christmas in Actions success depends largely upon the work performed by skilled labor. If you are an electrician, plumber, or carpenter and you would like to donate your time and talent ther are many projects that could use your skills. Christmas in Action is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization and all donations are tax- deductible.


How can I join the board of Christmas In Action?

Anyone interested in serving on the Christmas in Action Board or a specific committee may attend a Board meeting scheduled the third Thursday of each month, at 6:00 pm at 1113 Sheppard Access Rd. Wichita Falls, Texas 76306 or Contact Christmas in Action at (940)696-9396.

Christmas in Action Board consists of 7-12 volunteers from the community. There are no paid positions on the Board. Officer positions consist of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  Board members help in areas such as Fundraising, Fund Acquisition, Publicity & Public Relations.
